Yonne Nahalea Obituary

YONNE HONEY LI'IPUA ANDERSON NAHALEA Aloha, everyone. We want to share the peaceful passing of Mrs. Yonne "Honey" Nahalea on December 8, 2025, in Nanakuli, Hawaii. She was surrounded by loved ones at her granddaughter's home. Known as Aunty Honey and "kupuna," by her mo'opuna's, she lived in Nanakuli since the 1960s with her late husband, Quincy, or "Uncle Ala." She is survived by children, Jerry Leialoha Samia, Robert Hind Samia, Quincy Aloanu Nahalea, Jr., Derwood "Woody" Nuitani Nahalea, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Yonne Li'ipua Samia Williams, in August 2019. Her calabash 'ohana included the Akens, Ho'ohulis, Kaleohanos, Souzas, Cashs, and so many more. She was born and raised in Kane'ohe with 11 siblings and her parents John Williams and Lizzie Ka'iama Bush Anderson. She graduated from Castle High School and often visited Coconut Island in Kane'ohe Bay with family and friends during the early 1960s when her father worked for the island's owner. Her parents and son Robert made their home on the Mo'okapu side lagoon in the two white houses there. In Nanakuli, her athleticism included judo, karate, bowling, and paddling with Leeward Kai Canoe Club, including paddling across the Ka 'ie 'ie Channel in the 1970s. Come join us to celebrate her life on January 11, 2026, at Ulu Mau Village, from 12:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., with a service, scattering of her ashes in Kaneohe Bay around Coconut Island, and kau kau at 46-465 Kamehameha Hwy, Kaneohe, HI 96744. Attire is black or white shirt. Condolences can be sent via email to [email protected].

My Lovely Aunty, you will be missed! I remember working with you at Liberty House, not to much people call me by my full name, but you always called me Francoise at work. When I hear you calling me I always think that I was in trouble. You will forever be in my heart

Woody and I had the privilege of mom living with us for years, at Nanakuli and here in Hilo. She was a beacon of light that just attracted people to her weather family or friends. We had endless conversations and new memories were made here. She is so loved and is missed dearly. I had the best mother inlaw ever....laughter, tears and don't forget the inu too...we love you mom!!!

07/05/2025 Big Island we celebrated Kupuna's last birthday. It was a wonderful day with good food, drinking games and delicious cake. I remember signing happy birthday and she sang along like it was everyone's birthday just smiling and clapping her hands along to the music. I will always have you in my heart with every decision I make and choice I choose to make. I love you my kupuna .

Yonne Anderson/Samia/Nahalea, also called Honey by family members and close friends. One of the best memories I have of her was when I paddled with her on the Golden Female Crew for the Kaneohe Canoe Club, coached by our nephew Clint Anderson. She had several nieces and nephews of two generations paddling with the same club and she felt special hanging around with her younger paddling 'ohana, especially since the club represented Kaneohe where most of us grew up. My dad, for many years, was employed at Coconut Island, which sits in the middle of Kaneohe Bay. Many times, when our dad couldn't pick her up, she would take the Lilipuna route, walk down a steep hill to get to the ocean, and swim over to just hang out with our dad and mom. Dad would ask, "how did you get here," and nonchalantly she'd reply, "oh, I swam over from the Lilipuna side,” and dad would just smile and shake his head. She was definitely like our dad, "one with the ocean," and beautiful like our mom.
Of the twelve original siblings, only two remain alive today: sisters Sweetheart and Pua, both of whom were among the nine children born to John Williams and Lizzie Anderson. She enjoyed hanging with our family of five generations and growing, and the feeling was mutual from the entire 'ohana. My daughter, Crissy and I, met with her and one of her mo'opuna, Kamali’i, at Liliha Bakery Restaurant at Pearl Highlands about three months ago, and she was so relaxed and thoroughly enjoying herself.
Aloha Honey, I love you and will remember all the fun times when we just lazily sat around and talked story about our growing 'ohana of over a hundred members now. You are truly loved by our growing 'ohana, and we are going to miss you big time, especially that big laugh of yours. Missing you very much, I love you, your sister Pua.
