Allan Yamamoto Obituary

ALLAN TSUTOMU YAMAMOTO 88, of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away peacefully at home on February 14, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Spreckelsville, Maui, on April 12, 1935, Allan's upbringing on a plantation instilled in him a deep appreciation for family, friends, and the outdoors. With his father's influence, his love for athletics blossomed during his youth and began shaping his character for the years to come. After graduating from Baldwin High School in 1953, Allan continued his journey as a scholar-athlete at the University of Hawaii at Manoa where he excelled as a member of the basketball and baseball teams. His talent on the field caught the attention of professional baseball leagues, leading him to Japan after being drafted by the Daiei Unions. Upon returning to the islands in the late 1950s, Allan discovered a new passion for the game of golf, a sport that would become synonymous with his name in Hawaii. He became a dominant force in local tournaments, claiming victory in over 35 events and earning the distinguished honor of being inducted into the Hawaii State Golf Hall of Fame. Driven by his devotion to the game and his dream of creating a gathering place, Allan and his beloved wife Lorraine established Golf House, a hub for golf enthusiasts across the islands. Their commitment to extending their passion for golf with others left a lasting impact on the community. His dedication to the game went beyond any personal success as he instilled his steadfast work ethic in countless individuals as he generously shared his knowledge and skill. In 1979, Allan took on the role of Head Professional and General Manager at Pearl Country Club, further solidifying his legacy in Hawaii's golfing scene. Following this professional commitment, he continued to nurture his entrepreneurial spirit, opening Golf Inc. on Sheridan Street. His love for the sport was infectious, as he dedicated himself to mentoring aspiring golfers while constantly being surrounded by the friends he treasured. Reminded of days spent with his grandfather in Maui, Allan also had a deep passion for fishing. He could spend hours on the beach perfecting his technique and searching for the elusive Ulua. It was during these fishing excursions that he especially cherished the time connecting with friends, sharing stories and laughs as they awaited their next big catch. In addition to his contributions to the world of golf, Allan was deeply devoted to his family and friends. He was a dedicated grandfather, spending a majority of his time after retirement attending his grandchildren's activities, coaching them, teaching them life lessons, and mostly being their beloved "Papa." Allan is survived by his devoted wife, Lorraine, his daughters, Lanz (Kyle) Dong and Maya (Jack) Willey, his grandchildren, Noah and Emma Willey, Allan and Naya Dong, and his sister Karen (Sidney) Hamada. The family invites friends and loved ones to join them in celebrating Allan's remarkable life on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 3:00 pm at Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary. Visitation will begin at 2:00 pm. The family requests no flowers. Arrangements Provided By: Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary LLC
