Ralph Ichiyama Obituary

RALPH KATSUJI ICHIYAMA Ralph Katsuji Ichiyama, born August 9, 1934, in Wailuku, Maui, passed away in Honolulu on October 23, 2025, at age 91. After graduating from Baldwin High School and the University of Hawaii with a degree in Civil Engineering, Ralph served in the US Army and then dedicated 31 years to the State of Hawaii, retiring as Chief of the Design Branch, Public Works Division of DAGS. After retirement from the State, he joined the Architectural and Engineering Firm Mitsunaga and Associates for another two decades. A lifelong athlete, Ralph excelled in basketball, baseball, and golf, cherishing the camaraderie of sports and friendships made along the way. Ralph will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his kindness, generous spirit, strong work ethic and especially his loyalty to family and friendsall qualities that defined a life well lived. Ralph is survived by his wife Sandra, daughter Liann (Mitch), grandson Nick, brother George (Jan), sister-in-law Lily Ichiyama, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Cary, parents Juichi and Shizumi Ichiyama, and siblings Rikio, Tetsuo and Lucille Stewart. In keeping with his wishes, private services were held.
