ANITA WONG Obituary

ANITA CHANG WONG Of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away on May 9, 2023 at Hi'olani Care Center at Kahala Nui, she was 85. Born and raised in Honolulu, Anita graduated from Roosevelt High School and earned her Bachelor of Education from the University of Hawaii. She taught grades 7-12 math, science and language arts during her long career. In 1991, she was awarded a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship in Middle School Mathematics to study at Princeton University. Anita stayed active in the community and was named President of multiple associations including Associated Chinese University Women and Tsung Tsin. While running these organizations she especially appreciated the banquets with club friends and support from her Kahala Nui neighbors. She traveled extensively over the years to visit family and see the world. As a lifelong educator, Anita was proud to be selected to serve as a donor and "silent teacher" for one year as part of the University of Hawaii, John A. Burns School of Medicine Willed Body Program. She is survived by her daughters Laurie (Harry) Yee and Natalie (John) Diehm and four grandchildren; Alexandra, Nicolette, Jack and Kira. Anita was the beloved sister of Elma McConnell, Marjorie (Cresencio) Castanares, Debbie (Rodney) Kaido and the late Ronald Chang. She was a dear aunt to her nieces and nephews. She will be missed by many. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
