Dana Liu Obituary

DANA LOKELANI LIN-KIU LIU Dana Lokelani Lin-Kiu Liu passed away on August 21, 2025, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Her ohana is inspired to continue her legacy of courage, strength, and passion for life. Born in Honolulu on December 12, 1963, Dana graduated from Punahou School in 1981. She graduated from the University of Southern California with a BS in Biomedical Engineering in 1985, and subsequently earned her MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business. Dana's career in engineering and finance spanned several organizations and eventually brought her to Blue Shield of California. Folsom, California, became her home, and at Blue Shield, she worked with a team of 14 as the Director of Sales Incentives and Commissions. Dana had a vibrant entrepreneurial spirit. In addition to her work at Blue Shield, she created, owned, and operated two businesses, Argos Caffe in Folsom and S?? Spanish, which specialized in online Spanish language instruction. She had a large following of regulars who enjoyed eating, drinking, and socializing at the Argos coffee cafe. Dana loved Spanish culture and language, travel, music, and sports. She traveled extensively in Central and South America. Her taste for music ranged from classical to rock to R&B. She played the violin and was a proud member of the Honolulu Youth Symphony. A true sports fan of the USC Trojans, Los Angeles Lakers, and the Minnesota Vikings, it was not unusual to find her at the neighborhood pub shouting "Skol"! Dana's ohana includes her mother, Millie Hee Liu, her sisters, Lisa Liu Marelich and Nani Jean Liu Rodriguez, her brothers-in-law, Greg Marelich and Alex Rodriguez, and her nephews, Alex Marelich, Chris Marelich, and Cheveyo Rodriguez. Memorial services will be held at Thurston Chapel, Punahou School at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 21, 2026. The Nehoa Street entrance gates will be open for parking at 9:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers and gifts, donations can be made to the GO2 for Lung Cancer organization, which provides support for lung cancer patients and their families.
