Elaine Gima Obituary

ELAINE SACHIKO HIRASHIMA GIMA Elaine Sachiko (Hirashima) Gima, 84, born in Honolulu on March 5, 1940, to Walter M. Hirashima and Nora M. Yagi, passed away peacefully at home in Los Angeles on October 12, 2024. A proud Leilehua High School grad, Elaine earned her Bachelor's at the University of Hawaii and a Master's at Oregon State University. She was a dedicated science teacher for over 40 years, mentoring not only kids but new teachers. The majority of her career was spent teaching in LAUSD, first at the Junior High School level with the longest stretch at Alexander Fleming Junior HS. Then in 1992, she moved up to the High School level at Nathaniel Narbonne HS where she spent the rest of her career. She is survived by her husband Charles M. Gima, son Kristian, daughter Melissa, grandchildren Liam and Aytan; sister Charlotte (Hirashima) Sotelo, brother Harold Hirashima. Memorial service to be held at a later date.
