Ethel Maxson Obituary

ETHEL CHUNG MAXSON Ethel C. Maxson, 95, passed away peacefully at home on September 7, 2024. Ethel Moosun Chung was born on December 27, 1928, to Tai Wah and Esther Pang Chung. She graduated from Roosevelt High school and earned a bachelor's degree in music from the University of Hawaii. An accomplished Soprano, she performed in dozens of operas and musical productions from the 1940's through the 1980's: including the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra, USO and Honolulu Community Theater. She also sang as a soloist and in the choir for Central Union Church and St. Andrew's Cathedral. Ethel was preceded in death by both parents and her brothers Theodore Chung (Tina) and Richard Chung. Ethel is survived by her husband of over 71 years, John Hollis Maxson Sr. whom she married on May 2, 1953, her three children, Elaine Menendez (Charly), John Maxson Jr. (Fay) and Ruby Tilton (Tonnett), her brother Rodney Kang (Linda) and sister Sharon Morikone. Ethel was a beloved grandmother and great-grandmother. The memorial service will be held on October 19, 2024, 4:00pm Eastern time (10:00am Hawaii time) at St. Edward's Episcopal Church, 460 N Grandview Street, Mount Dora, FL 32757. The service will be live streamed and posted to YouTube. For information and links, email [email protected].
