Gary Pang Obituary

GARY KWAI HONG PANG Age 73 of Honolulu, passed away September 9, 2023, surrounded by his family. Born May 14, 1950, to Lorraine and Albert Pang, he was the oldest of two children and grew up in Punchbowl/Makiki. As a youth, Gary was active in Boy Scouts, Troop 200, and earned his Eagle Scout Award. Graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1968, he attended University of Hawaii-Manoa. The Vietnam War prompted him to enlist in the Army in 1972. During his two tours, he served as an Airborne Ranger and marksman (sniper). He was honorably discharged from active duty in 1976, and finished another two years in the reserves. Gary returned to UH to finish his degree, where he met the love of his life, Ann. The two wed in 1979, and Gary took a post-graduation job selling cars at Universal Motors. While closing a sale with a charismatic customer, he discovered a new career path in insurance sales. Through hard work, he became a highly-awarded Commercial and Life Insurance Agent. His proudest achievement though, was to raise three daughters with Ann, staying involved in their extracurriculars including: Girl Scouts, Maryknoll Bowling, and coaching Punahou School's Riflery and Air Riflery teams. Since his retirement in 2012, Gary enjoyed traveling with his family, watching old-timey movies, playing with his dog Hank, and keeping his brain young with strategy war games. Gary is survived by his wife Ann; daughters: Jaeda Pang, Jeanine Pang-Rubianes (Ryan), Julia Pang; grandchildren Leila and Sebastian Antonio; fur-babies Hank, Ellie, and Gershwin. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Coleen Pang-Yamane. Visitation and services: 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Borthwick Mortuary. Internment: 2:00 p.m. at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl.
