George Kahanu Obituary

GEORGE HAWAE KAHANU, JR. George Hawae Kahanu, Jr. was born in Honolulu on Dec. 10, 1938 to Ellen Niolopa Stewart and George Hawae Kahanu, Sr. George attended Kamehameha School, class of 1956. He went on to study at the University of Oregon and the University of Hawaii, earning a degree in business. He became CPA and worked at Roberts Hawaii for most of his professional life. George was an avid ping pong player. Recognized locally as one of the best, he also showed off his skills at many national tournaments in Las Vegas. A loyal friend who never held a grudge, he was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin and grandfather who could always be counted on. On January 12, 2025, in the early morning hours, George passed peacefully. A good man, he will be sorely missed by many. He is survived by Marilyn, his wife of 50 years, daughters Noelle Kahanu and Jennifer Mina, son Michael Kealoha Kahanu and grandchildren Hattie Keonoana Hapai, Youssef, Seif, and Fareed Mina, sisters Ellen K. Raiser and Kehaulani Nakamoto. He was preceded in death by his first wife Diane Hina Matsuo. Services will be held at Oahu Cemetery on Tuesday, January 28 with visitation at 9 am and services at 9:30 am.
