Ann Kahanu Obituary

ANN LAI KAHANU 86, of Honolulu, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2025, in Honolulu. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Born in Honolulu, Ann was the youngest of four children of Lee Lai and Grace Porter Lai. A graduate of Roosevelt High School, Class of 1956, and the University of Hawai'i, Ann enjoyed sewing and was the proud owner of Honolulu Babies LLC and the #1 fan of the K-pop group BTS. She is survived by her husband, David Wilcox Kahanu, Sr.; daughter Rhanda (Donald) Coleman; sons Kent Kahanu, Danny Iwanaga, Erik (Paige) Iwanaga, Leighton (Cheryl) Kahanu, David Jr. "Duke" (Jeni) Kahanu, and Alan (Terry) Kahanu; 18 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters Helene Ballard and Erma Marshman, and was preceded in death by her parents and sister Shirley Whiteley. A memorial celebration will be held on Monday, July 21, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Hawaiian Memorial Park Chapel in Kaneohe.

I haven't seen Ann & David for many years. David was my husband's supervisor at Midwest Life Ins. I thought they had moved to the Big Island. The sweetest couple and family. She was a pretty woman, full of energy, always smiling. Condolences to the Kahanu family. God bless you all.
