Herbert Shimabukuro Obituary

HERBERT KENKI SHIMABUKURO 95, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025. The fifth of ten children, he was a graduate of Farrington High School, the University of Hawaii, and the George Washington University Law School. Prior to attending law school, he served as a Second and First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. For his service in Korea, he was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service. Following more than two decades in private practice, he served as a judge for the District Court of Honolulu and the State First Circuit Court, and later served as Civil Administrative Judge. In addition to his professional career, he was actively involved with the Honolulu Japanese Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Hawaii United Okinawa Association (HUOA), serving as President of the Haneji Club and member of the HUOA Board of Directors. In 2017, he received the J. William Fulbright Distinguished Public Service Award from the George Washington Law Alumni Association for "outstanding public service throughout his legal career." He is survived by his wife, Lillian Ohara Shimabukuro, sons Mark, Chris (Shiori), and Jon, and grandson, Chase. Private service to be held. Arrangements Provided By: Hosoi Garden Mortuary
