Kathleen Cashman Obituary

KATHLEEN MAURA CASHMAN Kathleen Maura Cashman passed away on August 13, 2023, at the age of 57 surrounded by the love of her family. Katie was born on May 25, 1966, at Tripler Army Hospital in Honolulu. She graduated from Waialua High School and received her BA and MEd from the University of Hawaii. She is survived by her mother Sandra Cashman and siblings: Eileen Cashman of California, Alicia Esche of Pupukea, Tommy Cashman of Pupukea, Pearse Cashman of Washington, Amy Cashman of Oregon and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Katie was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Thomas Cashman. Katie grew up in Manoa Valley attending Maryknoll Elementary and High School. The family moved to Pupukea and Katie spent most of her life on the North Shore. She loved to surf with friends at the surf breaks off Aweoweo and White Plains Beaches. Katie lived and worked in Waialua and Haleiwa with stints at the Sugar Bar and Haleiwa Joe's. After earning an Associates' degree in coding, Katie worked at Tripler Hospital and then joined the faculty at Leeward Community College where she served as Program Director for the Health Education Technology Program. She will be deeply missed by her students and coworkers. Katie's love of her cats Celehi and Hoku is well-documented as they appeared in a variety of scenarios on her annual Christmas cards. Her golden doodle, Lovey Clare is a recent addition to her family who brought comfort and joy to the last six months of her life. Katie was a force of nature who brought life and joy to any occasion. She lived life with gusto and thrived in her final year and a half making trips to Nazare, Portugal; Sedona, Arizona; and Missoula, Montana with siblings. Her quick wit and energy enlivened any gathering. Katie leaves a legacy of living each day of life to the fullest with integrity and facing mortality fearlessly. Her strong spirit will live on in the Cashman Ohana. Memorial arrangements are pending. Please contact the family for time and place. Arrangements Provided By: O'ahu Mortuary

I was only her student for one semester, but in those few months I learned how amazing she was as a professor and a person. Whenever I had a question she was always quick to respond and help in any way possible. I just wish I could have ended my medical coding educational journey with her in her 200s classes next semester. Thank you for being an inspiration, professor.

I truly enjoyed working with Katie and Leeward Community College for the past decade. She was always positive, upbeat and funny. I had the pleasure of seeing her briefly on campus several months back and we exchanged a big hug. Much love and aloha to Katie's family and friends.

Dear Sandra and family,
I feel very blessed to have known Katie and all of you for so many years. I know this is a huge loss and my hurts along with yours.
I have many great memories hanging out with Katie over the years in San Francisco and Hawaii. She really knew how to enjoy life and be in the moment. My last visit to Oahu in January was so special because Katie took me on adventure hiking upward on slippery wet rocks to a beautiful waterfall I would have never done on my own.
I always admired how she was her own person and always brought joy and love to all occasions.
Katie will be greatly missed by all of us.
