So very sad to hear of Merv Lopes passing. I have many good memories as Merv was the most important welcomed VIP Guest who at times stayed with us at our Estate while he had business on the island.
I was blessed to have met Merv and Sheryl his beautiful! wife. I always admired their fun loving, healthy relationship. Both very active and so full of life!
I was the late David Shutter´s Live in as Daves Estate Mgr. at 4747 Kahala Ave.
Dave and Merv were very close friends as most of us know.
Mervs selfless acts, I would watch him always rushing, always running through the Estate with a fruit in hand and mouth trying to get a snack in before he shot out to do his business as a mentor and his supporting the Athletes and others.,
So After hearing of his sad passing tonight fr my husband, i instantly started to flash back on all the good times I remember with Merv present at the Estate.
One time We were setting up for the "Big Man Camp" which was being held at 4747.
I still have pictures of Merv and Sheryl. Sheryl with her flowers in her hair, her white off the shoulder blouse , on her mans side with their big smiles entertaining the Pros. and star struck guests, me included.
Scotty Pitten, Shaquille O´Neil and so many others hanging out by the pool and singing into the late night. While many guests were unable to take pictures or to get signed autographs, Merv as busy as he was, was kind to lead me and my two young Nephews to the Pros. to introduce me just! so I could get pictures and have them sign my Nephews Basketballs . Because of Merv my Nephews had a experience they still haven´t forgotten.
Merv was a fixture in Dave´s sprawling 4747 Kahala Estate. We knew the man!.... when
" Merv Lopes " was flying in to stay with us, our ground keepers and myself were told to prepare! and prepare now! for his stay.
The Red Corvette Merv drove while visiting which belong to Dave had better been washed and gased up for Merv or look out!
Merv was such an amazing man. I can only believe therrs a higher power who took him to fly and fly high, called to Coach, and mentor still.
His generosity and selfless acts for others, those who knew him, Merv will never be forget
My Condolences to Sheryl and his entire Ohana.
