Neil Okamoto Obituary

NEIL OKAMOTO At 48 years old, it was too soon but the Lord said it was time, and the angels came for Neil on August 2, 2023. Neil was born in Honolulu to Kiyomitsu Kenneth and Ellen (Nishiiwa) Okamoto. He graduated from Aiea High School and Chaminade University. Neil had a heart of gold and he was able to have meaningful relationships with everyone around him. As a special education teacher and counselor at Pohakea Elementary School, Neil had the opportunity to touch the lives of many staff, students and parents in the community. Neil enjoyed coaching boys and girls volleyball. He coached various age groups with Kealahou Volleyball Club (KVC) as well as at various high schools, the latest being Campbell High School. Billiards was his game. He played on teams in APA and BCA and at various locations making friends everywhere. He loved traveling, making many trips to Las Vegas, the Philippines and Thailand. This past March, he went to Japan with the family. Neil is survived by his Dad and Mom, brother Greg, pet Bailey, uncles, aunts, cousins, and many, many dear friends. Please join us in Celebrating his Life on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at Nuuanu Mortuary. Visitation at 1:00 p.m.; services at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements Provided By: Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary LLC

Neil was an amazing human being. The gap he left in our hearts because he left us too soon. May the days, weeks, and years bring healing to our hearts and leave us with fond memories. Rest in love my dear friend.
