Sharon Katahira Obituary

SHARON SAYO KIYABU KATAHIRA Sharon Katahira peacefully passed away in her home on her birthday September 12, 2024, at 73 years old. Sharon was the youngest of three siblings, cherished by sister Pam and her late brother Kerry, and born to Larry and Edith Kiyabu. She grew up in Moiliili, Honolulu and attended Maryknoll school, then went on to attend the University of Hawaii. Sharon enjoyed her 35 year career as a sales representative for Holiday Mart, Kenault, Kimberly Clark, and 3M, before retiring in 2010. It was through working at Holiday Mart that Sharon met her husband-to-be George Katahira. Sharon and George were married in 1977, going on to have two children. They moved to Waipio Gentry to raise their young family and worked as a team by advocating for youth sports opportunities in their community. Sharon was a dedicated enthusiast of conformation dog showing, where she found joy and fulfillment in both competing and mentoring others. She was generous with her time and passion to anyone who wanted to learn about dog care, grooming, or showing. Sharon is remembered for her generosity, kindness, joyful smile, sense of humor, patience, and overall good-natured personality. She found happiness in helping her family, friends, colleagues, and community. She was fond of breakfasts with friends, celebrating holidays with extended family, and dinners with her immediate family. In her later years, she cherished the time spent with her grandchildren, traveled the world with George, enjoyed simple picnics at the park, and gardening. She is survived by husband George, son Justin (Lyn), daughter Krystle (Matthew), and grandchildren Audrey, Kamden, and Everly. Private Services held. Arrangements Provided By: Hosoi Garden Mortuary
