Thelma Suzuki Obituary

THELMA TOMIKO SUZUKI 93, passed away May 24, 2025. She was born in Maui on April 18, 1932 and raised in Iao Valley and Happy Valley. After graduating from Baldwin High School, she married Norman Suzuki and traveled with him during his 26-year career in the U.S. Army. They raised six children together before returning to the islands and residing in Oahu. Thelma had the best work ethics and that was very apparent during her employment as a custodian at Pearl City High School for 28 years. She would start her day at work before the crack of dawn and long before the birds awoke to avoid disturbing the workflow of others. She took great pride in her work and enjoyed interacting with her coworkers, school staff and students. To her, age was just a number. Her job kept her active and strong until she retired at the age of 80. She was the last surviving of nine siblings. Predeceased by her parents, Gunkichi and Tamano Nitahara; brothers, Kazue, Hakaru, Masaru and Satoshi; sisters, Kiyoko, Sally, Betty and Jean. Thelma is survived by her children, David (Janice), Johnny, Ricky, Tammy, Jaynie, and Paula (Jon); grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. No services to be held. Private scattering of ashes. Arrangements Provided By: Hosoi Garden Mortuary
