THOMAS KANESHIGE Obituary

THOMAS KANESHIGE Thomas Minoru Kaneshige passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 29, 2024 at the age of 92 in Honolulu, HI. Born on 8/20/1932 in Honolulu, HI, he was the son of Takuzo and Tomeyo Kaneshige. Thomas graduated from Farrington HS and attended UH & UCLA, earning a BA in Chemistry and MS in Meteorology. He retired after 40 years, returning to his beloved Hawaii after a successful career as a Research Meteorologist and Supervisory Physical Scientist. His career spanning the United States Air Force, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and World Meteorological Organization involved extensive international travel and participation on projects around the world. Thomas lived a life of service; serving in the US Air Force, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel; and as a devout member of St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Kapolei, HI. Married for 62 years to Mildred Fukumoto Kaneshige, Thomas is survived by his children, Timothy Kaneshige (Chikako), Mark Kaneshige (Chao), Kevin Kaneshige (Mia), Anne Tran (Quang), Peter Kaneshige (Pauline) and Pamela Kaneshige, 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; brothers Henry and Morris, sister Grace Kaneshige Koizumi and many extended family. Thomas Kaneshige will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, intelligence, and humor. Thomas was a quiet, caring husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, cherished by his family and many friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s Catholic Church or the Hawaii Food Bank.
