TOMMY KOAHOU Obituary

TOMMY KOAHOU 71, of Kailua, Hawaii, passed away on July 11, 2023. He was born on March 9, 1952, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to John and Jeanette Koahou. Tommy is survived by his loving wife, Leslee, and their children - Johnette (Troy), Merletina, Drew (Solleen), and Jennifer (Susan). He was a beloved grandfather to Ashlee, Bryson, Isaiah (Jana), Sage-Manuel, Slade-Lawrence, and Dak-John, and a cherished great-grandfather to Keoni, Kala'i, Ilima-Lei, and Kuaiwi. Tommy is also survived by his sister, Eleana "Umi" Koahou. Tommy attended Kailua High School and began his career at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard in August 1970. He followed in the footsteps of his father, John, and brother, Bernard, as a second-generation shipyard worker. Tommy worked as an Insulator in shop 56 (Laggers) and dedicated 27 years of his life to the shipyard before retiring in September 1997. In 2003, Tommy joined his wife at Holiday Retirement as Resident Managers, embarking on adventures in San Francisco, Arizona, New Mexico, and eventually returning home to Hawaii. After 13 fulfilling years, Tommy retired from Holiday Retirement in December 2016. In his free time, Tommy enjoyed coaching softball, traveling to Las Vegas, golfing, and most importantly, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He cherished every moment with his family and created lasting memories with them. A Memorial Service to celebrate Tommy's life will be held on September 6, 2023, at Mililani Mortuary in downtown Honolulu (20 S. Kukui Street). Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 am, followed by the services from 10:30-11:30 am. Tommy will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. His legacy of love, dedication, and cherished memories will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

So sorry to hear this news. My dad lived at Hawaii Kai retirement community managed by Tommy and his wife, until his death in 2015. Tommy was always looking out for Dad, and would let us know if something had happened we should know about--such as a fall--since when we would talk to Dad (daily) he often wouldn't remember falling.
Thank you so much, Tommy, for your kindness and caring. Dad was so fond of you, and so were we.
Rest in peace.

My Dad lived at the Hawaii Kai Retirement home where Tommy worked. Dad was fond of him and I remember he and his wife Leslee as being very warm and kind.
