Mr. Nagaishi was my 6th grade teacher at PCHES in 1962.---my favorite teacher! He was kind, thoughtful, and definitely enjoyed his career. I truly learned a lot in his class. I remember once he joined a few of my classmates and myself hiking near an irrigation ditch in Pearl City. Besides having fun, Mr. Nagaishi provided a learning experience for us.
I especially enjoyed my assignment in doing research on Japan. It definitely opened up the world to us especially since many of us did not take trips outside of Hawaii. He even taught us about how airplanes fly. He made learning fun; I remember Mr. Nagaishi providing challenging problems to one of my classmates and myself since we were doing very well in our language arts assignments. I will never forget Mr. Nagaishi.
In deepest sympathy......Susan

Mr. William "Bill" Nagaishi was a wonderful and caring 6th Grade Teacher at Kalihi Elementary School. He was one of two 6th Grade Teachers at the school. Mr. Nagaishi and Mrs. Jane Pang (gr.6) worked together as Cooperating Teachers for the University of Hawaii Student Teacher Education Program. Both would take new aspiring Student Teachers and provide mentoring. Mrs. Pang was my assigned mentor who teamed with Mr. Nagaishi. Mrs. Pang was an excellent mentor as well.
Mr. Nagaishi´s strengths were his ability to build relationships with his students and fellow staff. He was hard working and dedicated to his profession. He loved teaching Physical Education and was very creative in modifying the many games and sports. He was an avid tennis player. He was very competitive. If I remember correctly, he played tennis with Mrs. Jane Pang (gr.6) and Mrs. Mary Miyamoto (gr.5). There were times when these teachers after school would dialogue about playing tennis.
To the Nagaishi Ohana........ I want to extend my condolences to you. I am very sorry for your loss. Mr. William "Bill" Nagaishi touched so many in and around the classrooms, tennis courts, and community. He will be remembered.
