I just saw this of Eric's passing. My belated condolences. I worked with Eric when he did a job at the Hawaii Kai Wastewater Plant. I was the plants Lead Operator. He was winning state baseball titles coaching Punahou Varsity. I still have the cap he gave me, and when people ask I give Eric the credit. He was great to work with.

Such a great guy and kind person. Even though he is known for being an amazing baseball coach and leader of young men, he should be also remembered for being so supportive and caring for everyone who knew him. When I was first starting my practice in Hawaii in 1998, he was one of my very first patients who gave me the privilege to care for him. I always feel grateful for his trust and belief in me. God bless you "Duke." I miss you!

I didn´t know Eric well, but what I knew of him was he was a man of principle, honor, and heart. I met Eric at UH in Civil Engineering classes. He was always laughing and smiling. I could tell engineering was not his main passion and I am glad he found his calling.
I can say with certainty that he made a positive difference in so many kids´ lives. Reading about Eric reminds me of Coach Carter who coached the Richmond School basketball team. The world needs more people like Eric to coach kids not only how to play a sport, but more importantly how to be an authentic human being that understands "old school" ideas of respect, honor, and compassion. It saddens me to hear of his passing, as this world needs more positive role models.
