Raymond Ching Obituary

RAYMOND CHING Raymond Fai Ching, also known as "Lefty" to his golfing buddies, passed away on June 19, 2024 at the age of 104. He left a wife and family who loved him dearly and will miss him so much. Raymond was born on May 14, 1920 in Honolulu, Hawaii and attended McKinley High School. He married Josephine Leong on May 24, 1941, joined the army during World War II and was awarded a congressional gold medal. He worked at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and was there on December 7, 1941 during the bombing. He went on to become a planner and estimator for their nuclear submarine program. He loved playing poker and mahjong with his family, camping and fishing on the weekends, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Raymond is survived by his wife of 83 years, Josephine, and his son, Randall (wife, Sylvia Ching) and daughter, Jo-Ann (husband, Oren Leong), and his grandchildren: Jennifer Matias, Kara Leong, Christine Hangai, Erin Yamashiro, Jonathan Leong, his (10) great- grandchildren, and (4) great- great-grandchildren. A private funeral service will be held for the immediate family. Arrangements Provided By: Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary LLC
