VERNON MIYAMOTO Obituary

VERNON KENJI MIYAMOTO 84, passed away at home in Temecula, CA on October 12, 2022, with his family at his side. He was born in Hilo, grew up in Honolulu, and graduated from McKinley High School. He earned his PhD from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. After an academic career, he and his family moved back to Hawaii, where he eventually became laboratory director for the Hawaii State Department of Health. He was an accomplished photographer with an irrepressible sense of humor and a loving husband, father and grandfather, whose laughter could always elicit the same from others. He is survived by wife and love of his life, Joyce, daughter Catherine Choi (Michael), son Michael (Mary), grandchildren Matthew, William, Grace, Emma and Andrew, and a little dog, Maya, who's still waiting for him to walk through the door. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at St. Pius X Church in Manoa, (remembrances - 9:45am, service - 10:00am), followed by a lunch reception at 11:30am.
