WAYNE THOMAS NOJIRI Wayne passed away peacefully at Queen's Medical Center on March 5, 2023, with his family at his side. He was born on August 12, 1949 in
Honolulu, Hawaii to Sueyoshi Moran Nojiri and Rubie Kawamoto. He was a graduate of McKinley High School's Class of 1967 and went on to attend the University of Hawaii where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and his Master's Degree in Public Administration. In November 1974, Wayne joined the Honolulu Fire Department where he served at various stations throughout Oahu and rose through the ranks during his 31 years of public service. He retired from the job he loved as an Assistant Fire Chief in 2006 and felt truly blessed that he was a part of the HFD Ohana. During his retirement, Wayne enjoyed travelling to exotic international and domestic destinations but you would find him several times a year at his favorite hangout - Las Vegas. Wayne is survived by his wife, Elaine; his son, Scott Takafuji (Yukiko); his grand-daughter, Stacy; his sister, Susan (Nojiri) Bunn; his brothers, Rob Kawamoto (Diana) and John Kawamoto; brother-in-law, Rodney Takeshita (Chong Su) and nephews, Kai, Luka and Noa Kawamoto. He will always be remembered as unpretentious and genuine, extremely loyal, possessing extraordinary integrity and his quirky sense of humor. He will truly be missed but never forgotten. His final words to those he loved.....A Hui Hou. The Ohana would like to express their sincerest Mahalo to the many physicians and nurses from Queen's Cancer Center Kuakini, UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center and Islands Hospice for their dedication and compassion. They also would like to thank family and friends for the many prayers and aloha received during the past year. A celebration of Wayne's life will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Hosoi Garden Mortuary. Visitation will begin at 3:00 pm and service at 4:00 pm. Aloha attire. Mask required.
