Yvonne Shim Obituary
YVONNE MARIE MAPUANA FRANK SHIM Our dear Mom, Yvonne Marie Mapuana Frank Shim, joined her parents, Keaeloa and Edith Frank on Friday, June 28, 2024, at the age of 85. She was a wonderful mother and expected all to love one another the way she did. She was always there offering support with no judgement, wisdom, and love in abundance. Her style was no nonsense, no drama all aloha. She was born and raised in Nu'uanu and graduated from McKinley High School in 1957. In 1974, Yvonne started her career at Punahou School as a cashier in the snack bar. Yvonne worked her way up to Assistant Food Service Director. She not only supervised the kitchen production, but she also became the head cook for faculty dining room and for all special functions. Her favorite function was feeding student athletes before their games! After retirement, Yvonne channeled her passion for cooking by co-founding a catering company, "Have Food Will Travel" and Raven Restaurant. She then established Yvonne's Catering and catered for Central Union Church. Yvonne brought joy and delicious food to countless events and gatherings, ho'olaule'a, gubernatorial candidates and specialty dinners. She was known for many dishes, especially her sweet-n-sour spareribs, squid lu'au and her famous potato salad. Yvonne enjoyed traveling throughout Europe, going on cruises and flying to watch her grandchildren's sporting events. Yvonne could be found engrossed in her word search games, watching and cheering for all kinds of sports, enjoying her favorite game shows and fielding calls asking for cooking tips and recipes. In her conversations or when signing a note, she would always end with, "Bless you, love you." Yvonne is survived by her husband, Roland Shim, Sr. Four children: Roland K.Y. Shim Jr. (Lokelani), Ronald Shim (Yolanda), Rochelle Fairbairn (Chris), and Reynelle Shim. Surviving siblings: Kathy Gay Su'a, Kalani Frank (Bernie), Kiki Frank (Arlene).
