Clifford Hunt Obituary

CLIFFORD CLIFF HUNT Clifford B. Hunt, born February 11, 1956, went to be with the Lord on December 22, 2025. Cliff is survived by his mother, Gloria, and his sisters, Gail Edel (Monty) and Jana Schroeder (Ralph). Cliff was born at Kapiolani Hospital and raised in Niu Valley where he became an avid surfer, mastering the local surf breaks. A 1974 Kalani High School Grad, he attended the University of Wisconsin where he graduated with honors in 1980. Thereafter, he went to Hawaii's William S. Richardson School of Law, getting his J.D. Degree in 1983. From there, Cliff began working as a state public defender, the start of a long and distinguished career as one of Hawaii's best trial lawyers, specializing in criminal defense. After entering private practice, Cliff took on several high profile cases, representing his clients in difficult and serious matters with distinction and aplomb. Cliff was listed in the Best Lawyers in America (2012-2017); selected as a 100 Top Trial Lawyers (Hawaii) by National Trial Lawyers (2012-2017); during those same years he was selected as one of Hawaii's Super Lawyers and named by Honolulu Magazine as the 2016 Lawyer of the Year in Criminal Defense. In addition to surfing, Cliff was passionate about baseball (a die-hard S.F. Giant's fan) and music (he played a mean guitar), and doted on his nine pound dachshund, "Hans Maximus". Cliff was a loving hanai uncle to the children of his close friends. Cliff is missed by those who loved him, but who take solace in knowing that he put his life right with the Lord. All are invited to attend a celebration of life at Kakaako Waterfront Park on Sunday, March 8, 2025 from 1 pm to 3 pm. Please contact Tom Bush at [email protected] with any questions.
