Craig Yamada Obituary

CRAIG MASAO YAMADA Craig Masao Yamada passed away on July 7, 2023 at the age of 64. He was born to Tsugio and June Yamada on April 29, 1959, the youngest of their four children. He was a proud graduate of Kalani High School and the University of Hawaii, and was a gifted saxophone player. He began his teaching career on the Big Island, at Waiakea Intermediate, Kalanianaole Intermediate, and Laupahoehoe High. He moved back to Oahu to be a band teacher at King Intermediate and then became the school's registrar. Craig had a BIG heart, voice, appetite, and love for life, and he enjoyed sharing his time, knowledge, gift of gab, and culinary talents with others. Whether planning events with the King Ohana Association, school community council, leadership team, or Builders Club; participating in Kiwanis Club activities; delivering meals to seniors (Lanakila Meals on Wheels); caring for aging relatives; golfing; or bringing people together by cooking meals for students, staff, faculty, volunteers, family, and friends; Craig did everything with gusto! His passion for helping others touched many lives, and while he will be dearly missed, he leaves us with many precious memories. He is survived by sisters, Lynn (Glenn Mashiba), Mona, brother, Stuart (Sue), nephews, Ryan (Shannon Parish), and Andrew, niece, Kimberly, and grandniece, Aiko. Private services were held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider donating to Lanakila Meals on Wheels or the Kiwanis Club of Kaneohe in his memory. Arrangements Provided By: Hosoi Garden Mortuary

Mr. Yamada was my band teacher at King. He was one of the best teachers I had. He had such enthusiasm and a gentle spirit. So many fun memories talking and laughing in his band room. He will be missed. My condolences to his loved ones.
