JOHN NAGASAWA Obituary

JOHN LEISHI NAGASAWA John Leishi Nagasawa, 81, of Mililani, Hawaii passed away on September 9, 2024. He was born in Honokaa, Hawaii. John was a 1962 graduate of McKinley High School. He entered the plumbing trade in 1963 and attained the rank of Master Plumber. He was a Member of the UA Local 675 and previously served as Recording Secretary and Sentry. He was also an instructor for Apprenticeship Plumbing and was so proud of his many students. He recently celebrated 60 years of service and was a member of the Retiree club. John was always smiling and laughing. He was strong but gentle, kind but firm, smart, courageous, resilient, very giving, compassionate and loving. He enjoyed life to the fullest: Tako diving, fishing, puzzles, traveling, eating, driving "around" and hanging out with Terry and family. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Yukio Daniel and Grace Yasuyo Nagasawa; Brothers: Tadao "Tad" (Missy) Nagasawa, Tatsuo Gary (Elizabeth) Nagasawa, Sonny Yuko Nagasawa, Freddie Toru Nagasawa; Sisters: Dorothy (William) Rozal, Katherine Toshie (Carl) Vandervort, Rachel Reiko (Mitsuo Steven) Uemura, Ann Teiko (Thomas) Lyons, Betty Kayo (Ed) Choi and Yoko Mae (Satoru "Sonny") Matsunaga. Also preceded in death by many of his nieces and nephews. He is survived by his wife Terry Yamashita Nagasawa. Daughters: Tess (Clayton) Yoshida, and Charis (Dwight) Matsuwaki and Son; Jay Nagasawa. Grandsons Korey Yoshida, and Sinjin Nagasawa, Granddaughter; Kaila Matsuwaki, Sister-in-law Jean (Freddie) Nagasawa and first wife, Merle Nagasawa. He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews and grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. John had a passion for crocheting and creating rattail cord and pony bead leis. He probably made and gave away hundreds. If you were blessed with a lei made by John please wear it to the service.
