June Isono Obituary

June Mieko Isono AKA June Uyehara Isono passed away in her home on November 25th, 2020 at the age of 66. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Gary; Children Sean (Ai) and Catherine (Blake) along with grandchildren Taisei, Riko, Adelynne, and Andrew; Brother, Jon (Patti); numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins.
June was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on November 28th, 1953 to Yoshika and Donald Uyehara. Growing up in Aina Haina and a graduate of Kalani High School in 1971 and went to the University of Hawaii for college. In her time there, she participated in a study exchange at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst for a year. During her time in Boston, she realized that she loved a snowy season, which then turned into a traditional Tahoe trip during Thanksgiving and a lot of times, her birthday. She obtained her Masters degree at Purdue University (Go Boilermakers!) and her doctorate degree from the University of Central Michigan in Audiology.
Fresh out of college, June worked for the Honolulu Medical Group for a few years. Wanting to pave her own path and deciding that being employed wasn't for her, she started her own private practice at Queen's physicians office building then to St. Francis Medical Center. Through her 40 year career, she serviced communities all over the state with offices on Oahu, Hilo, Kona, and Kauai. She assisted in the first cochlear implant in Hawaii and loved making a difference with her patients.
As far as passions go, June loved to ride dressage and travel the world. She had four horses and one main trainer that helped her escape into her own little world for a bit. She went from competing in dressage to serving as a judge for competitions. She was an avid reader and needlepointed in her down time. Creating lasting memories for her family and friends through all life's events.
Whether it was keeping score at a KAC baseball game, filming a gymnastics routine, or planning the next holiday party, June never missed a chance to spend time with friends and family. She cherished her time with everyone and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunty, and friend. She is and always will be missed.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, March 10th at the Kahala Hotel from 10am until 2pm.

June was one of the most fun and feisty people I ever had the pleasure to work with. She brought joy with each interaction. I always said I could fit her in my pocket. She meant a lot to many of us here on the mainland and I think of her so very often. My thoughts have always been with her family, friends, and cherished co-workers. This was an unforgettable loss.
